Chess Tournaments in Italy

The Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI), founded in Varese in 1920, governs Italian chess as a FIDE member federation, with clubs as its basic organizational unit and individual memberships processed through them. Competitive play centers on the Campionato Italiano a Squadre (CIS), a national team league with a top Master division and A1, A2, B, and C tiers below it, alongside an annual individual Italian Championship dating back to 1921. Turin put Italy on the international map by hosting the 2006 Chess Olympiad, one of the largest editions ever staged.
