Rochester Chess

Rochester Chess is a nonprofit chess organization serving players in Rochester, Minnesota and the surrounding area. The club organizes one major annual event, the Rochester Chess Festival, along with smaller casual, scholastic, and rated chess opportunities throughout the year.

Players can use this page to find upcoming events, club updates, tournament information, and ways to get involved with the local chess community.

New players, families, experienced tournament players, and volunteers are welcome.

The Rochester Chess Festival is hosted by Rochester Chess and includes major tournament opportunities such as the Rochester Open and related championship events. The 2025 festival was described locally as the largest chess event in Rochester history, and Dennis Mays was quoted as Rochester Chess Club President.
