2026 Texas State Girls’ Championship

The 2026 Texas State Girls’ Championship is an official Texas state championship for eligible female players who live in Texas or attend a Texas school, including homeschool students.

Eligibility and memberships

Players must be female Texas residents or students enrolled in Texas schools, including homeschool students. Active US Chess and Texas Chess Association memberships are required.

Sections

• High School: grades 9–12
• Middle School: grades 6–8
• Elementary: grades K–5
• Primary: grades K–3
• Kinder–1st

Sections may be merged depending on the number of entries.

Schedule and format

The event uses a 4-round Swiss format with G/60; d10 time control. Round times are:

This tournament has two sections: Open and Beginner.

The beginner section does not require US Chess membership. It is limited to players who either have no official US Chess rating or are rated below 800. We strongly recommend that new players choose the beginner section.

All Kentucky-resident K-12 girls who finish with four or more points in the Open section will qualify for the Kentucky Girls Championship in the Spring. The Girls Championship will determine Kentucky's nominee for the Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions.

The top two Kentucky-resident finishers in the Open section qualify for the 2027 Kentucky Women's Closed Championship tournament in Summer 2027.

Other Notes

• Players younger than high school age (~14) must be accompanied by an adult on site for the entire tournament.
• Boards, pieces, and clocks will be provided
• Players are expected to take notation in the Open section, but not the beginner section
• For lunch, there is a refrigerator and microwave available on site and there are places to eat within 10 minute drive. We will coordinate a pizza order for interested participants at a low cost.

• Unrated players: In lieu of a published regular rating, the tournament director reserves the right to use other USCF ratings for pairing and prize eligibility purposes. Unrated players are eligible for 1st and 2nd prizes in each section, as well as Top Mom/Daughter pair.
• In case of ties for these invitational qualification slots, a two-way tie will be decided by a G/10+5 playoff, though the TD may shorten this to as low as G/5 if circumstances do not permit a longer game. If there is a three-way or more tie, the invite will go to the player with the highest established USCF rating among tied players, then the highest rating (even if not established), and finally to any unrated player.
• Accelerated pairings may be used at tournament director discretion.

2026 Texas State Girls’ Championship

The 2026 Texas State Girls’ Championship is an official Texas state championship for eligible female players who live in Texas or attend a Texas school, including homeschool students.

Eligibility and memberships

Players must be female Texas residents or students enrolled in Texas schools, including homeschool students. Active US Chess and Texas Chess Association memberships are required.

Sections

• High School: grades 9–12
• Middle School: grades 6–8
• Elementary: grades K–5
• Primary: grades K–3
• Kinder–1st

Sections may be merged depending on the number of entries.

The event uses a 4-round Swiss format with G/60; d10 time control. Round times are:

The 2026 Texas State Girls’ Championship is an official Texas state championship for eligible female players who live in Texas or attend a Texas school, including homeschool students.

Eligibility and memberships

Players must be female Texas residents or students enrolled in Texas schools, including homeschool students. Active US Chess and Texas Chess Association memberships are required.

Sections

• High School: grades 9–12
• Middle School: grades 6–8
• Elementary: grades K–5
• Primary: grades K–3
• Kinder–1st

Sections may be merged depending on the number of entries.

Schedule and format

The event uses a 4-round Swiss format with G/60; d10 time control. Round times are:

• Round 1 — 9:00 AM
• Round 2 — 12:00 PM
• Round 3 — 2:30 PM
• Round 4 — 5:00 PM

Players may request up to one half-point bye, except for the final round. The tournament is US Chess rated, not FIDE rated, and operates under US Chess rules.

Prizes

Trophies will be awarded to the top five players in each section. Team trophies will be awarded to the top two teams in each section.

Mondays at Turtle Bay is Downriver Chess Club of New Orleans’ weekly USCF-rated club night, held at Turtle Bay, 1119 Decatur St in New Orleans. The Marietta Stonehaven Chess Club hosts regular USCF-rated scholastic tournaments open to all students in grades K-12.

Schedule

• Arrive between 8:40-8:50. You can park in the main lot, which faces Pearson Middle School, at the side lot near the playground, or at Pearson. Either way, you will enter through the front door (at the main lot) into the main office and then through to the library to await announcements and instructions for the morning. Signs will help direct you to the right place.
• Round 1: 9:00AM
• Subsequent rounds begin immediately after the previous round. Pairings and results will be posted through Chess67.
• The tournament usually ends around 11:45AM.
• All chess sets and clocks are provided, so you don't need to bring anything, though a water bottle and snack might be a good idea.

The Women and Girls Open is Kentucky's premier Women and Girls event. It consists of two sections:

• an Open section for experienced players
• a Beginner section, which is perfect for first-time tournament players or for moms and coaches playing alongside their daughters and students.

This event is only open to women and girls, but players do not have to be from Kentucky.

This event is free and no US Chess membership is required for the beginner section.

Sections

This tournament has two sections: Open and Beginner.

The beginner section does not require US Chess membership. It is limited to players who either have no official US Chess rating or are rated below 800. We strongly recommend that new players choose the beginner section.

All Kentucky-resident K-12 girls who finish with four or more points in the Open section will qualify for the Kentucky Girls Championship in the Spring. The Girls Championship will determine Kentucky's nominee for the Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions.

The top two Kentucky-resident finishers in the Open section qualify for the 2027 Kentucky Women's Closed Championship tournament in Summer 2027.

• Players younger than high school age (~14) must be accompanied by an adult on site for the entire tournament.
• Boards, pieces, and clocks will be provided
• Players are expected to take notation in the Open section, but not the beginner section
• For lunch, there is a refrigerator and microwave available on site and there are places to eat within 10 minute drive. We will coordinate a pizza order for interested participants at a low cost.

• In case of ties for these invitational qualification slots, a two-way tie will be decided by a G/10+5 playoff, though the TD may shorten this to as low as G/5 if circumstances do not permit a longer game. 3. Swiss - meaning players are paired each round with opponents who have similar scores
4. G/30 d5 - For each game, each player has 30 min to make all their moves, with a 5-sec delay per move. This dually rated time control counts towards both USCF Regular & Quick ratings.
5. 1 Bye Max - Only 1 half-point bye may be requested during registration.

Marietta Stonehaven Scholastic Chess Tournament

The Marietta Stonehaven Chess Club hosts regular USCF-rated scholastic tournaments open to all students in grades K-12.

Tournament Format

• 3-round Swiss
• Time control: G/25; d5 (each player receives 25 minutes per game with a 5-second delay)

USCF-Rated Sections

• Beginner (unrated-399)
• Intermediate (400-749)
• Advanced (750+)
• Note: Players rated within 100 points may choose to play up one section. Unrated players may contact TD if they want to request to play up. Sections may be combined at TD discretion.

Schedule

• Arrive between 8:40-8:50. You can park in the main lot, which faces Pearson Middle School, at the side lot near the playground, or at Pearson. Either way, you will enter through the front door (at the main lot) into the main office and then through to the library to await announcements and instructions for the morning. Signs will help direct you to the right place.
• Round 1: 9:00AM
• Subsequent rounds begin immediately after the previous round. Pairings and results will be posted through Chess67.
• The tournament usually ends around 11:45AM.
• All chess sets and clocks are provided, so you don't need to bring anything, though a water bottle and snack might be a good idea.
