The New Jersey State Chess Federation (NJSCF) is the state's USCF affiliate, running the annual New Jersey Open and the New Jersey State Championship alongside a full slate of scholastic events. Every February, the U.S. Amateur Team East (also serving as the World Amateur Team) fills the Parsippany Hilton with hundreds of four-player teams from up and down the East Coast, making it one of the most anticipated weekends on the U.S. amateur calendar. Local club play is spread across the state rather than centered in one city, with groups like the South Jersey Chess Club in Marlton and the New Jersey Chess Club in Morristown giving adults and scholastic players regular places to compete outside of tournament weekends. New Jersey's scholastic pipeline has also produced serious talent, most visibly in Englishtown, where Abhimanyu Mishra trained his way to becoming the youngest grandmaster in history.
