Chess Clubs in United Kingdom

The English Chess Federation (ECF) is the FIDE-affiliated national body for England, formed in 2004 as a successor to the British Chess Federation founded in 1904, and it runs the national rating system, the British Chess Championship, and selection for England's Olympiad teams. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland field their own federations and national teams. Club and league chess is organized regionally, with London alone supporting dozens of clubs and its own long-running London Chess League, which dates back to 1886, while the 4NCL brings together the strongest club sides from across the country in a team competition played over weekends, mostly at Midlands hotel venues.
