Coach Carters Chess Academy

Coach Carter’s Chess Academy is a San Antonio-based chess program focused on helping students of all ages improve their game and enjoy chess along the way. I offer private lessons, group classes, camps, and events both in person and online, with an emphasis on building strong fundamentals, confidence, and better decision-making at the board.

My coaching is structured but practical. Rather than relying heavily on memorization, students learn how to recognize patterns, understand key ideas, and make better decisions in real games. Lessons are adapted to each student’s experience level, from complete beginners learning the basics to intermediate players looking to take the next step.

After lessons, students can also receive personalized recaps covering what we worked on, key takeaways, and what to practice before the next session. This helps students and parents keep track of progress and makes it easier to build from one lesson to the next.

More than anything, the academy is meant to be a place where students can consistently learn, practice, compete, and be part of a chess community. My goal is to make improvement clear, engaging, and rewarding while helping each student build skills they can carry into every game.
