Because the state is so large, Texas chess works through several regional centers instead of one dominant city. That has given the state a durable mix of scholastic events, adult Swiss tournaments, and coaching markets. Players often travel across metro lines for the right tournament weekend, which helps keep the statewide scene interconnected even when local pockets feel distinct.
