2026 Georgia Senior Open Chess Championship May 30-31, 2026

- This event honors Senior chess players in Georgia. The top Georgia player will receive a $500 stipend to attend the ++9th Annual (2026) John T. Irwin National Tournament of Senior State Champions++. Cash prizes may be won by players from other states. Eligibility: Players must be over the age of 50 on or before May 30, 2026. Players must be GCA members with current US Chess memberships. Format: 2-day USCF-rated event, 4-SS, Time-Control: G/90+30 inc. EF = $75 online until May 28th. EF = $100 onsite. EVENT OVERVIEW
Team Trophies! Three players in the rated sections attending the same school (as of the spring 2026 semester). Teams have no upper limit; the more players on a team, the higher the chances for a good result, but only the top 3 players’ results count for the team total. The team gains points by winning or drawing rated games. Points are weighted, with results in higher sections worth more.
Mohar June Chess Tournament – Scholastic and Open Chess Tournament June 7, 2026 Holiday Inn, 909 Holcomb Bridge Rd Roswell, GA 30076 4SS, G/25;d5 5 sections – An Open section for adults and advanced scholastic players, 3 Rated Scholastic-only sections for K-12 players and a Nonrated Scholastic practice section for new and young players. ROUND TIMES: First round is at 10:00AM, rounds 2-4 will start ASAP after the preceding rounds finish with a slightly longer break for lunch between rounds 2 and 3. We are usually done around 4 – 4:30 PM. NONRATED SECTION: The Nonrated section is for new/unrated players and players rated below 300 who need practice. While the rules of chess still apply, this is a more relaxed game designed to let new and young players experience chess without worrying about ratings. New players may choose to play in the Under 400 section if they want to become rated. 3 SCHOLASTIC-ONLY RATED SECTIONS: Under 400, Under 800 and Under 1200: These sections require an active US Chess Federation membership (https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess). New players wanting a rating play in the Under 400. OPEN SECTION: This Section is available to both adults and scholastic players. Scholastic players rated over 1199 must play in this section; however, any scholastic player rated 1000+ may choose to play in either the Open or kids-only Under 1200 section. - **100-point Rule: **Players rated within 100 points of next section cutoff (June USCF supplement or live rating thereafter) may “play up” a section if they choose to.
- Example: a player rated 1700 on the June rating list (or live rating thereafter) may play up in Class A if they choose to, but not a player rated 1699.
- No exceptions – do not register for a section that you are ineligible for by rating. Erroneous registrations will be moved to the correct section.
- Unrated players may enter the Class D or U1200 sections and are eligible for prizes.
- Prizes are paid on site on Sunday, June 28 until 5:30pm, or mailed out the week of June 30.

Notes:
- NO SPECTATORS – during active rounds, parents, spectators, and players that have finished their games are not permitted in the playing room or nearby hallways. Only staff and active players may be in the tournament hall and immediate hallways during play.
- Boards, sets, and clocks are supplied for the tournament only – bring your own for analysis or skittles.
- Withdrawals:
- Cancellations until June 24 may incur a $5 transaction fee.
- 50% refunds after June 24 until 90 minutes before round 1.
- No refunds for cancellations less than 90 minutes before round 1.
- Cancellations, withdrawals, or 0-point byes must be submitted at least 1 hour before the relevant round. Players who “no show” or forfeit a game may incur a $100 fine.
- Fair Play Policy will mirror the Charlotte Chess Center’s FPP – leave cell phones and smart watches in your room or car, or store them in a bag or under your chair during your game. No electronics on your person or in your pocket during play.

Teams have no upper limit; the more players on a team, the higher the chances for a good result, but only the top 3 players’ results count for the team total. The team gains points by winning or drawing rated games. Points are weighted, with results in higher sections worth more.
Mohar June Chess Tournament – Scholastic and Open Chess Tournament June 7, 2026 Holiday Inn, 909 Holcomb Bridge Rd Roswell, GA 30076 4SS, G/25;d5 5 sections – An Open section for adults and advanced scholastic players, 3 Rated Scholastic-only sections for K-12 players and a Nonrated Scholastic practice section for new and young players. ROUND TIMES: First round is at 10:00AM, rounds 2-4 will start ASAP after the preceding rounds finish with a slightly longer break for lunch between rounds 2 and 3. We are usually done around 4 – 4:30 PM. NONRATED SECTION: The Nonrated section is for new/unrated players and players rated below 300 who need practice. While the rules of chess still apply, this is a more relaxed game designed to let new and young players experience chess without worrying about ratings. - No exceptions – do not register for a section that you are ineligible for by rating. Erroneous registrations will be moved to the correct section.

Notes:
- NO SPECTATORS – during active rounds, parents, spectators, and players that have finished their games are not permitted in the playing room or nearby hallways. Only staff and active players may be in the tournament hall and immediate hallways during play.
- Boards, sets, and clocks are supplied for the tournament only – bring your own for analysis or skittles.
- Withdrawals:
- Cancellations until June 24 may incur a $5 transaction fee.
- 50% refunds after June 24 until 90 minutes before round 1.
- No refunds for cancellations less than 90 minutes before round 1.
- Cancellations, withdrawals, or 0-point byes must be submitted at least 1 hour before the relevant round. Players who “no show” or forfeit a game may incur a $100 fine.
- Fair Play Policy will mirror the Charlotte Chess Center’s FPP – leave cell phones and smart watches in your room or car, or store them in a bag or under your chair during your game. No electronics on your person or in your pocket during play.

EVENT OVERVIEW
Team Trophies! Three players in the rated sections attending the same school (as of the spring 2026 semester). Teams have no upper limit; the more players on a team, the higher the chances for a good result, but only the top 3 players’ results count for the team total. The team gains points by winning or drawing rated games. Points are weighted, with results in higher sections worth more.
Mohar June Chess Tournament – Scholastic and Open Chess Tournament June 7, 2026 Holiday Inn, 909 Holcomb Bridge Rd Roswell, GA 30076 4SS, G/25;d5 5 sections – An Open section for adults and advanced scholastic players, 3 Rated Scholastic-only sections for K-12 players and a Nonrated Scholastic practice section for new and young players. ROUND TIMES: First round is at 10:00AM, rounds 2-4 will start ASAP after the preceding rounds finish with a slightly longer break for lunch between rounds 2 and 3. We are usually done around 4 – 4:30 PM. NONRATED SECTION: The Nonrated section is for new/unrated players and players rated below 300 who need practice. While the rules of chess still apply, this is a more relaxed game designed to let new and young players experience chess without worrying about ratings. New players may choose to play in the Under 400 section if they want to become rated. 3 SCHOLASTIC-ONLY RATED SECTIONS: Under 400, Under 800 and Under 1200: These sections require an active US Chess Federation membership (https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess). New players wanting a rating play in the Under 400. OPEN SECTION: This Section is available to both adults and scholastic players. Scholastic players rated over 1199 must play in this section; however, any scholastic player rated 1000+ may choose to play in either the Open or kids-only Under 1200 section. Players will be placed in the section that matches their rating unless granted an exemption by the Tournament Director. Rated sections may be combined at TD discretion. ENTRY FEE: Registration received till 31st May is $40. Late registration begins from 1st June to 6th June for $45. Same day, onsite registration is $50 and must be completed by 9:00AM to be paired for Round 1. Late sign ups may receive a ½ point round one bye.
