Chess Clubs in Georgia
Georgia chess is anchored by metro Atlanta, but the state's real strength comes from the way clubs, school programs, and weekend tournaments connect Atlanta to the rest of north and central Georgia.

Modern Georgia chess grew through a practical mix of scholastic energy, private coaching, and visible club leadership in the Atlanta area. That matters because it gives the state more than one entry point: serious juniors can find regular instruction, adult players can find rated events without constant travel, and organizers can build around an audience that already understands tournament chess as a normal part of local chess culture.
- Metro Atlanta concentrates most of Georgia's clubs, coaching, and weekend tournament activity.
- Serious juniors and adult players can find rated events across north and central Georgia without constant travel.
- Grandmaster Ben Finegold's Atlanta presence has helped shape the modern local scene.
Ben Finegold
Grandmaster and one of the best-known modern figures tied to Atlanta and Georgia chess.
Boris Kogan
